Zelnard, out of breath and exhausted, could barely keep his head above water. His eyes widened as he saw the Tyra closing in. Panic surged through him, and he tried to swim to the bank, but his limbs were too weak. His leg hurt, the air still felt absent from his lungs, and his body was simply too tired.

The Longmouthed Tyra's eyes were locked onto Zelnard, its powerful tail propelling it forward and closing the distance between them with terrifying speed.

Dunstor stood frozen, his earlier malice replaced with a mixture of horror and fascination. He knew what was about to happen, yet he did nothing. He simply watched as the scene unfolded before him.

As the Tyra came within a few metres of Zelnard, a shout rang out from the bank.

Ferson and another boy had heard the commotion and arrived just in time to see the approaching predator and its prey—their missing boy—struggling in the lagoon.

Without hesitation, Ferson raised his hand. His fingers wove through the air as he summoned the energy for a fire spell. The air around him crackled with heat as a ball of flame formed in his palm, bright and searing.

With a sharp flick of his wrist, Ferson sent the fireball hurtling toward the Tyra.

The fireball struck the water just in front of the Tyra's snout, exploding in a burst of steam and light. The Tyra recoiled, its smooth body twisting away from the heat. With a powerful flick of its tail, it vanished back into the depths of the river.

Zelnard was unharmed, but still struggling in the water.

The other boy, Abah, did not waste a moment. He pushed past Dunstor and rushed to the edge of the bank, reaching out over the muddy shore.

His hand grasped Zelnard's wrist with a firm grip.

Abah pulled with all his might, hauling Zelnard across the water and onto the safety of the muddy bank.
