Aethoria
In the First Age, before the fracturing of people from crystal and purpose, there was One People, and they walked together beneath the unbroken light of the Heartwell Crystal in ancient Kefar. From that radiant source flowed both crystal power and knowledge, the twin forces that gave breath, memory, and meaning to the world we now call Aethoria.
But as generations passed, the one ancient people spread outward from their home in the sacred Mosaic Archipelago, carried by wonder, ambition, and necessity. Time, distance, and the unequal keeping of knowledge reshaped them, and thus were born the Eleven Crestrealms, each bearing fragments of the original truth, each believing in their own, each guarding power they remembered and secrets they had almost forgotten.
Then came the Sundering, when the Heartwell of Kefar fell silent, and the unity of the world was replaced by division, suspicion, and the long shadow of separation. The Great Ocean rose and lands disappeared. Cold lands to the north bore no more fruit, and passages once blocked were opened for exploration.
Yet even in division, the memory of unity endured. And so it was, in this present age of fragile peace, that the Crestrealms gathered once more in the shining city of Kefar, the meeting place of all who still believe the Heartwell may yet be restored.
There stands the modern Kefar Crystal Exchange, where the lifeblood of the world’s economy is measured and entrusted. There stands the Ironroot Bank, supported by the strength of gold from the Ironroot Bastion, the metals and crystals of the Auric Exchange, and the economy of the bounteous Virielia Bloomlands.
These institutions are where the strength of nations is bound in promise, in places like the great Library of Crysalise and the Library of the Astryx Arcanum, where the knowledge of all shared Crestrealms is preserved against the erosion of time.
And thus, in this world begins a journey of heroes, that what was scattered in the Sundering may one day be made whole.
